Call For Entries

Artists, students, professional and amateur photographers are all welcome to donate 3 (three) or more photographs that show the theme of light in any way: light as an artistic medium, subject or inspiration, representational or abstract. Image size of photographs must be no smaller than 8 x 10 inches and no larger than 13 x 17 inches and neatly hinge-matted with backing. No color mats, please. Artist's name and title of the piece should be on the back of the photo.

No entry Fees: All entries donated by the artist support Westbrook Schools Meal Project for Westbrook Youth. Each artist who donates 3 (three) or more photographs will receive one free ticket to the event. The evening will include a drawing for the displayed photographs. When the lucky ticket holder’s number is called, the guest may select a favored photograph off the wall to take home. This will continue until the photographs or tickets finish, whichever comes first.

Jurors: This year we have two jurors, Mara Lavitt, free-lance photographer and former staff photographer at the New Haven Register, and Chip Rutan, President of the Essex Art Association. Awards Given will be: Best in Show, an overnight stay at the Water’s Edge Resort & Spa ($350 value); Best in Theme, cash prize of $100; Best Use of Color, Best Black & White, Best Student Photo and Merit Awards will each receive a gift certificate/item from a local business. There will also be several Honorable Mentions. All awards will be given a web presence on both Oxford Academy’s and Westbrook Schools’ websites and social media.

Delivery of Photography: March 13-22 2023, at Knight Hall/Development Office at The Oxford Academy, 1393 Boston Post Road, Westbrook, CT 06498. Office hours: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (860) 399-6247.

Exhibition and Event Date: Saturday, March 25, 2023, at The Oxford Academy, The Stone Family Student Center. The exhibition preview will be at 6:30 p.m. Awards will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Drawings and selection begin at approximately 8:00 p.m.

Notice of Pick-up of non-accepted work: If for any reason photographs are not accepted due to presentation, space constraints, or imagery deemed inappropriate, the artist will be notified through email or by phone. Non-accepted work or works not selected must be picked up on Monday, March 21st, 2022, at Knight Hall.

Liability Statement: The Oxford Academy and the Westbrook Schools, either individually or collectively, will not be responsible for any loss or damage to work submitted. By submitting one or more photographs, each exhibitor acknowledges and is deemed to have acknowledged that he or she has been advised of this and accepts the risk. The artist expressly relieves The Oxford Academy and the Westbrook Schools, their officers, directors, and students, proprietors and employees, from any liability with respect thereto.
