Science Curriculum
"Through the use of science discussions and discourse, along with Next Generation Science Standards, students will share, hear, and implement multiple perspectives as a means to better understand each other and our complex world."

Elementary Science
Disclaimer: The elementary school science curriculum is actively under revision and the first project was completed on August 18, 2023, which was the K - 4 Robotics Curriculum Map. The entire Robotics curriculum for each of those grades was implemented during the 2023 - 2024 school year. Additionally, Daisy Ingraham Elementary school is entering its seventh year of using the FOSS NGSS science kits, in which three units are taught per grade, from grades kindergarten through five. During the summer of 2025, additional elementary science curricula will be written, after the fifth grade used the FOSS kits for the first time in the 2024 - 2025 school year.

Disclaimer: During the 2023–2024 school year, the WMS Science Department piloted the STEM course for grades six, seven, and eight. Full curriculum development began in the summer of 2024, one year after the start of instructional implementation. All curriculum maps align with the NGSS standards and Westbrook’s Portrait of a Graduate (PoG). Also, the sixth grade robotics curriculum was completed on August 20, 2024, and the eighth grade robotics curriculum was finalized on November 14, 2024.

Disclaimer I: The high school science curriculum was updated in its entirety as of August 15, 2023. Additional revisions for Forensics I and II were completed on March 4, 2024.
Disclaimer 2: In curricula for Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, and Chemistry, the learning plan and learner support sections are where instructional strategies can be noted about the college prep and honors tracks.
Disclaimer 3: In the 2023 - 2024 school year, WHS piloted a new course, Science Practices and Principles. Its instructional design, as demonstrated in the curriculum map, provided all students with the general science skills that adhere to the Next Generation Science Standards. The full curriculum was then written and completed on August 24, 2024.
Disclaimer 4: Beginning in the fall of 2024, the A.P. Physics 1: Algebra-Based curriculum will follow the new changes outlined by The College Board. Please click the "A.P. Physics 1: Algebra-Based" hyperlink below to view the revisions.
